The Richard Hull Builders team have many years experience to ensure that your property alteration goes smoothly.

When we plan an alteration, we take into account the existing property structure and materials, the alteration is always undertaken in the same style and quality so that the property looks as smart as you expected.

We also specialise in kitchen installations, we can take care of the entire project including: the demolition work, removal of the old units, preparation of the surfaces and installation of units, appliances, flooring and tiling. We pride ourselves on leaving all properties in a clean and tidy state when the work is complete.

In the second half of 2006 we undertook a major renovation to our rural character house near Hamilton. The original part of the house is 100 years old and there had been two significant additions in its history with only 4 owners in that time, including ourselves. The project scope was to expand and modernise the kitchen, integrate the outside rumpus room into the house via a new entrance matching the original front entrance character and to create an indoor outdoor plan with a private courtyard, entertainment area and large deck.

Richard Hull Builders were recommended to us by a colleague who had completed a renovation project with the firm and were very positive about the quality of the job and their working relationship.

Right from our first contract meeting with Richard we felt very comfortable discussing the plans and project, finding him to be professional, forthcoming with suggestions for improvement, flexible within reason and really easy to get along with. He was comfortable working with our planner, Ross McMillan of McMillan Design and all of their collective skills were required at the very start of the project when the plans for integration of the outdoor room structure were turned upside down with the discovery that we could not effectively use the existing framework.

This change of plan was the first of many with the old house turning up quite a number of challenges with a square wall being a rarity, lots of issues with changes in roof lines, and many other fun and games brought about by the combination demolition and new reconstruction project. I am sure that Richard quietly cursed our frequent revisions and new ideas, but he remained patient and many were incorporated with some of the best being fresh ideas from his team.

Living in a house undergoing major renovation has its moments but Richard’s guys made life as comfortable as they could for us and were always mindful of our needs. We got to know the crew pretty well over the 16 weeks of the project and can genuinely count several of the team as good friends. The team worked very well with our kitchen designer, Bruce Condor Cabinetmaker and have produced a kitchen which is a true pleasure for a foodie to work in!

The workmanship and attention to finishing detail by his selected trades people on the project was exemplary and there were very few concerns to raise in the final inspection. A testimony to the quality of the job was the success for the firm in winning the Waikato Master Builders Award for a renovation project <$250,000.

One very special quality of the firm has been the willingness to support and follow-up with urgency on the inevitable minor issues that arise as the building settles down and the rapport with the team remains totally comfortable. This relationship remains ongoing several years after project completion.

When we decided to upgrade our upstairs en-suite there was no question who we would use and once again we had a very positive experience. The project was also a combination demolition and renewal project which was difficult to manage because of the location. The team did very well keeping our bedroom and the rest of the house tidy and the result, as for the first project, was special, with the quality outcome very much a combined result of Richard Hull Builders and us as owners.

Both projects have been very positive for our living and lifestyle in the house and we now have a home that has real warmth and a pleasure to live in.
